The River Medway

The River Medway provides the perfect setting to unwind, relax and enjoy the Kent countryside.
 
 
Here are just a few of the many recreational activities available on and around the River Medway.

Walking

Explore a network of scenic footpaths along the river banks and beyond into the surrounding countryside.
Why not visit the Maidstone Millennium River Park on the banks of the river between Teston and Allington.

Boating

The River Medway is host to a variey of water-based activities and attracts many boating enthusiasts.
 
 
 
Facilities for boat users are avaliable at Marinas along the River Medway. Contact - Twyford Marina 01622 814378, Hampstead Marina 01622 812673, Bow Bridge Marina 01622 812802 or Allington Marina 01622 752057.
 
Locks are situated at Allington, Farleign and Teston.

Fishing

Fishing is permitted on certain streches of the River Medway. A valid rod licence is needed, visit your local Post Office or www.environment-agency.gov.uk more details.

Wildlife

An abundance of wildlife can be found along the banks of the river.

Events

The Maidstone River Festival is held in late July and is one of the highlights of the events calendar. The festival welcomes hundreds of boat owners and thousands of visitors to Kent's county town.
